August 4th, 2012 Lake Shafer…
The fifth event of the season was held on Lake Shafer on August 4th, 2012. Sixteen teams rolled in to participate in the event. Lake Shafer is usually an excellent place to fish with several limits being weighed in, however when you factor in the tourism the turbulent seas on the main lake, it becomes a whole lot tougher lake. The temperature was also supposed to sky rocket as record highs were forecast for the area.
Congratulations to the team of Arthur Kearns and Walter Kearns. Arthur and Walter battled many boat and electrical issues throughout the day but kept on grinding and were able to secure an awesome limit on a tough day on the lake. Arthur and Walter were able to bring in a limit of fish that weighed 10.85 pounds. Congratulations on a great day guys!
In second place was the team of Mark Randolph and Erin McCormick. Mark and Erin also had an awesome limit of fish with a couple beautiful Lake Shafer smallmouth. Mark and Erin's limit weighed 10.1 pounds. Congratulations on a great day guys!
In third place was the team of Jim Han and Wade Cohagen. Jim and Wade also were able to catch a limit of fish on a very tough day. Jim and Wade weighed in at 8.44 pounds.
Rounding out the top five were the teams of Roger Mikels and Jason Vance and Dean Mullins and Jess Funston. Roger and Jason weighed in at 8.03 pounds and Dean and Jess weighed in at 7.09 pounds respectively. The big bas for the tournament was caught by the team of Nick and Hammond and Patrick Kaufmann. Their fish tipped the scales at 4.16 pounds.
After five events, Dusty and Brian Robinson hold a five point lead in the Angler of the Year race. There are several teams within striking distance and the lake that can be the toughest around is coming up next. This next event is going to be a lot of fun. Special thanks go out to our 2012 sponsors: Legend Boats, Mercury Outboards, Motor Guide, Bass West USA, Bass Tackle Depot, Swim Bait Nation, and Power Pole. We would also like to thank our 2012 local sponsors: Hinkle Construction, High Tech Motor Sports, Nolly's Fiberglass, Lafayette Copier, Trash Kans LLC., Westbrook Agency, The Tire Barn and Twin Lakes Fish & Game.
