May 5, 2012….Geist Reservoir

The second event of the 2012 season was held on Geist Reservoir. Anytime the trail makes a stop at Geist Reservoir the excitement level goes up a few notches. Past experience on this reservoir is historic, twenty pound bags are not out of the question, and five pound bass seem to be around every corner this time of year. The forecast was calling for a beautiful day, it is early May, and it was a full moon. This is a recipe for a great weigh in.
Congratulations to Aaron Ault and Jason Herrell. Aaron and Jason nearly topped the twenty pound mark, coming up just shy with an impressive limit of fish weighing 19.43 pounds, and they needed every ounce as they were just two ounces ahead of the second place team. On most lakes over nineteen pounds gives a team a run away win, but not on this reservoir.
In second place was the team of Fred Felix and Jeff Wehner. Fred and Jeff had a great day, as they tipped the scales at 19.23 pounds. Fred and Jeff have had two top finishes this season and in position to make a run at the angler of the year race. Congratulations on a great start to your season guys!
In third place was the team of Jason Vance and Roger Mikels. Jason and Roger had an outstanding day as well. Jason and Roger’s five fish weighed in at 18.06 pounds. How many teams do suppose has weighed in 37.49 pounds in two tournaments around the state and do not have a win to show for it? I doubt if there are many, if any. That goes to show everyone what an outstanding couple of bodies of water this trail fishes.
Rounding out the top five were the teams of Hockstedler and Ellis and McWhirter and Coffing, as they weighed in 16.39 and 15.46 pounds respectively. Just to point out how mind boggling this day was, the top five teams weighed in 25 fish that tipped the scales at 88.57 pounds, for a 3.54 average.
Special thanks go out to our 2012 sponsors: Legend Boats, Hinkle Construction, Lafayette Copier, High Tech Motor Sports, Nolley’s Fiberglass, Main Street Station, Twin Lakes Fish & Game, Westbrook Agency, and Trash Kans LLC. The third event will be held on Morse Reservoir on June 2nd. Sunrise that day is 6:18 a.m. The meeting will be held at 6:05, we will start at 6:18 a.m. and weigh in will be at 2:30 p.m.
