April 14th, 2012…Lake Shafer

The 2012 season finally came around for the Angler’s Choice Indiana division. A warm mild winter has water temperatures much higher than we are used to seeing and had expectations quite high for this first event of the season. Congratulations were extended to Jim Han and Wade Cohagen as they represented the Indiana division at Guntersville as our Angler’s of the Year. Congratulations again Jim and Wade on a great 2011 season. Seventeen teams rolled in to participate in the first event of the 2012 season. As a reminder to anyone who could not make it to this first event, it only takes five events to qualify for the championship and six events to qualify for the wildcard tournament, which is the seventh event of the season. The only downer that was part of the first event excitement was the weather. Unfortunately, the weather forecast was for rain and possible storms. The good news was that there were a lot of fish caught.
Congratulations to Dennis Waldron and Chris Hale. Dennis and Chris took home the honors of winning the first event of the year. Dennis and Chris were able to bring in a five fish limit that weighed 12.42 pounds. What was even more impressive on a day that did not see very many big fish, Dennis and Chris were able to bring in the big fish of the tournament with a largemouth that weighed 4.89 pounds. Congratulations on a great day guys.
In second place was the team of Doug Vanderwall and Murphy Meiss. Doug and Murphy traveled over from DeMotte to capture second place with a limit of fish that weighed 10.93 pounds. Congratulations on a great day guys.
In third place was the team from Lafayette, Dusty and Brian Robinson. Dusty and Brian weighed in at 10.60 pounds to start off their season.
Rounding out the top five were the teams of Jim McWhirter and Rod Coffing and Jim Han and Wade Cohagen. Jim and Rod weighed in at 10.19 pounds and Jim and Wade weighed in at 10.09 pounds respectively.
Special thanks go out to our 2012 sponsors: Hinkle Construction, Lafayette Copier, High Tech Motor Sports, Nolley’s Fiberglass, Main Street Station, Twin Lakes Fish & Game, Westbrook Agency, and Trash Kans LLC. The second event will be held on Lake Freeman on May 19th. Sunrise that day is 6:26 a.m. The meeting will be held at 6:15 and weigh in will be at 2:30 p.m.
